Brett Handley

Today I write about Mr. Brett Handley, another great rebol activist.
Do you remember this post (http://rebol.informe.com/blog/2013/01/28/seeing-parse-in-action/)?
Mr. Brett Handley updated his scripts about parse analysis , read here:
http://www.rebol.org/cpt-list-scripts.r?user-name=brett

He said me:
There have been many changes. Simplification, speed up, reduced memory usage, bug fixes. A much more interactive display and a simple way to call it (visualise-parse). The other big change is that the new display now supports parsing in block mode (not just text).

Try his scripts downloading them from http://www.rebol.org/cpt-list-scripts.r?user-name=brett or visit his site: http://www.codeconscious.com/

The Easiest Programming Language

Today I present another work of Nick Antonaccio: The Easiest Programming Language site
Obviously it talks about Rebol :-)
Moreover on his site he offers FREE private Rebol programming lesson, he wrote:

To introduce myself to new students and clients, I offer an absolutely free, private, no strings attached, one-one-one lesson and/or consultation, live online. If you'd like to take a free personal interactive lesson, if you'd like me to build you an application, or if you have any questions, you can get in touch with me 3 ways:

  1. Go to http://rebolforum.com to ask questions in the forum.
  2. Send an email to com2@com-pute.com, with the word "lessons" in the subject.
  3. Leave me a phone message at 267-352-3625, if you live in the USA.

Well, now you know: Nick is one of the most prolific rebol activist.
Tomorrow I'll write about another activist.

Rebol3 is dead, long live to Rebol3Bazaar

I've been quiet for a long while, and this blog is not easy for me to write.
I'm sitting here with a glass of 2013 Ferrarelle mineral water of the glass bottle... hoping to be inspired on how to write this...
No, bad introduction...
You know that Rebol is a fantastic programming language, but its development was discontinued and bad supported. A lot of people when encounter Rebol falls in love for its simplicity, a blend of theory, experimentation, and invention, the language embodies elegant and wonderful concepts and properties. It was and is the most productive language I've ever used. I hope your experience has been similar.

Unfortunately a lot of bad events are leading Rebol to a no through road:
  • no direction of the new Rebol3
  • no a central site open for discussion
  • no updates on Rebol 3 source (well, just one every month)
  • too many sites about Rebol and with no updates from years

These and other reasons forced me to create http://rebol.informe.com/portal.html a public forum, with a public wiki and a blog, where everybody can contribute. The result is just 17 users, this means that Rebol is dying; the cathedral way of Rebol 3  development is not working.
So I'm forced by my love for Rebol to create a new GitHub repository: Rebol 3 Bazaar, it's a Rebol 3 source, with graphic working (VID, but just on windows at the moment); I promise you:
If you like to contribute write me, use GitHub or Rebol portal; you don't need to be a programmer, think about a new logo, contribute the wiki.
I draw the following logo, what do you think?

If you know REBOLers who might be interested in this discussion, please let them know about this blog posting. I look forward to hearing from you,
-Max

Community portal

As you know one of the main problem of rebol is documentation, searching on internet people feel like a man in the middle of the desert:
Every site on Rebol is closed and seem totally separated form the others.
Now there is http://rebol.informe.com, it's a site based on http://www.phpbb3portal.net/ software; it's free and it has:
  • a forum
  • a wiki
  • an image gallery
  • a blog
I just imported all most important wiki about Rebol (2 and 3) in it, forum is already divided in sub-forum, support links, images, attachments and flash videos. Image gallery already contains Rebol 2 examples, Rebol 3 examples and the original Rebol 3 GUI images form Carl S. The blog at the moment is just a copy of this one, but you can register and send articles.
I ask to all rebol users in the world to start use it, because at the present every developer is inside his little cave, without any communication with the external world. Rebol 3 is open source now, but it's missing all most important features of Rebol 2 (VID, sound, ...). We must organize and decide what to do, all other communication channels are too closed, slow or disorganized.
Come on join the portal, you'll find only friends abroad.
